Boston, Massachusetts may not be known as a bastion of dance studios, but have no fear, your kid has many options when it comes to dance classes in Boston and its surrounding areas:
Urbanity Dance is both a nonprofit dance company and a school. They reach out to people of all ages, backgrounds, and abilities, offering classes for children ages six months and up. The classes range from hip hop to tap and contemporary dance, and of course, they offer birthday party options as well.
Jeannette Neill Dance Studio is a jazz-focused dance studio around since 1979. In addition to their popular drop-in classes for adults, the studio offers a fun program for kids ages 3 -12. Kids will practice jazz technique, as well as ballet, tap and hip hop. And if you want to put your kid on the path to dance stardom, this might be the right place - students from Jeanette Neill have gone on to perform wit the Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater and the Radio City Rockettes.
The Dance Complex is a volunteer-based, artist-run studio that offers classes for kids and adults as well as performances, workshops, and special events. And if you want to bring the whole fam, no problem, as there is also a family flamenco class!
The world-famous Boston Ballet is also the home to the largest ballet school in North America. With three separate spots (Boston, Newton, North Shore) they offer an age-specific program, with the youngest kids/babies (age 16 months) starting out in a mommy-and-me type class, all the way up to seven-year-olds with classes that include piano. For older kids who love ballet, not to worry - they have over ten (!) levels of ballet taught in a very fun and patient environment.
